OVERVIEW
SCHEDULE & PLAYING SEASON
The baseball season begins in very late April, weather permitting. Teams play one game per week, on Wednesday evenings. Teams will practice twice a week leading up to the season and then once games begin will practice once a week. Games do get rained out, and coaches try to schedule make-up games. So, some weeks you may play more than one game. Games begin at 6:30 p.m., but coaches usually want players to arrive early for a pre-game warm-up. Typically, Grand Slam games are finished by around 8:00 p.m. Mitchell is part of the Carillon Baseball League, for Grand Slam Carillon has teams play in their own house leagues. For the past few seasons Mitchell has combined with several surrounding communities to create their own mini-league. The Grand Slam league will finish play before the end of June.
Equipment You Need to Provide
OVERVIEW
- In Grand Slam ball, players are divided into teams of 6-8 players. The focus is on teaching throwing, hitting, infield play, and base running.
- An inning is one time through the batting order.
- There are no strikeouts, if a batter missed 3 balls they are allowed to then hit off of a tee.
- If a batter is out in play they are out and return to their teams bench to cheer on their teammates.
- Games incorporate most of the rules of baseball, but the purpose is instructional and non-competitive. Game scores are not kept or recorded, and there are no umpires.
- A team coach or volunteer will pitch and another as a back catcher when their teams is batting.
- Coaches stand in the field during play to coach defensive players during game play.

Equipment You Need to Provide
- baseball glove
- batting helmet with working chin strap
- baseball bat*
- water bottle labelled with the player’s name
- white baseball pants are preferred but not required; sweatpants work just fine.
- baseball cleats (rubber or plastic cleats) are not required but are permitted.
